Career Development

The VTCT Foundation Career Development Programme

To deliver on our twin aims to support high quality, impactful research and invest in attracting and developing talent in the visible difference arena, we launched the VTCT Career Development Programme.  To date we have run two rounds and a third round is currently open for applications.

To apply for funding, please complete the Application Form and email to lizzie.chambers@vtctfoundation.org.uk

Objectives of the Programme:

  1. To enable clinicians and researchers to focus on areas of high impact research.
  2. To be the catalyst directly and by example for more funding to be channelled into the under-researched area of visible difference.
  3. To increase the talent attracted into research and ultimately the number of active researchers, research departments and NHS Trusts working in the visible difference arena.

What we fund:

  • PhD awards will only be made to research institutions and where a suitably qualified candidate has been identified and detailed in the application. We expect stipend levels to be in line the host institution’s own policies and scales.
  • Applications are encouraged from all researchers and healthcare professionals active and wishing to carry out research in and relevant to the visible difference sector.

What we do not fund:

  • student fees (neither domestic nor international)
  • supervision costs
  • any wider project costs. All indirect costs of research in universities are covered by the Charity Research Support Fund which is an element of government funding administered to universities as part of quality-related research funding.

While the Board reserves the right to consider all applications that can demonstrate significant impact, particularly in terms of translational research, we are keen to:

  • focus on common themes identified with Appearance Collective Chief Executives.
  • build on previous research funded by us and others to secure impactful outcomes.
  • support institutions that demonstrate their commitment through willingness to co-fund or secure match funding and with a pre-existing track record of impact in visible difference research.
