We are now closed to further applications as we are in the process of winding up over the next two years. During this transition phase we will be supporting existing grant holders and delivering a strategy to ensure we can leave a lasting legacy for the field.
What we have supported
Two major multi-year grants were made in 2015 and 2016 to the Scar Free Foundation and Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) respectively.
Since then, we have provided funding through the following grant-making programmes:
• A major and small grants programme for charities working in the field of visible difference.
• A ‘New Ways of Working Fund’ set up during the Covid pandemic to support charities to adapt to changing models of working
• An ‘Equality, Diversity and Inclusion’ programme which was launched in 2023, aiming to increase reach and support to under-served and under-represented communities.
• A research funding programme which supported high quality, impactful research into visible difference issues. We have funded both basic science and clinical research projects through this programme.
• A Career Development Programme which has invested in attracting and developing academic talent in the visible difference research arena.
Appearance Collective
An important aspect of our work has been hosting and supporting a network of individuals and organisations called The Appearance Collective with the aim of fostering better collaboration, reducing duplication and increasing impact. As part of this we have held an annual Showcase event for all Appearance Collective members and hosted a biannual meeting to explore strategic issues for the Chairs and Chief Executives of larger Appearance Collective charities. We will continue to support this Collective during our transition phase.
